Company Announcements Febit partnered with Prognosys Biosciences to offer a new Genome-to-Array Service. Febit appointed Michelle Lyles, PhD, to the new position of vice president, Marketing and Sales, in March. Previously, she was director of Sales at Sigma-Aldrich’s Research Biotechnology Business Unit. Transgenomic appointed David P. Pauluzzi, a consultant at Water Street Healthcare Partners, to its Board. Effective March 1, Luminex named Randel S. Marfin to the new position of vice president of Strategic Development. Gregory J. Gosch replaced him as vice president of the Bioscience Group. Replacing Mr. Gosch as vice president of Sales and Marketing was Darin Leigh, director of Sales and Marketing for Diagnostics. Wageningen Unversity and Research Center licensed Luminex’s xMAP technology and assay development capabilities for agro biotechnology applications. Inverness Medical Switzerland GmbH granted TTP LabTech a license for the application of Resonant Acoustic Profiling and the design, manufacturing and marketing rights to Akubio’s RAPid 4 (see IBO 11/30/07). Inverness acquired the assets of Akubio in 2007. Caliper Life Sciences reduced the size of its Board from eight to seven members, following the expiration of Dr. Daniel Kisner’s term. Newly formed Scientific Digital Imaging acquired imaging systems provider Synoptics in March. In March, Illumina named Joel McComb senior vice president and general manager of Life Sciences and Gregory F. Heath, PhD, senior vice president and general manager of Diagnostics. Mr. McComb was previously president of GE Healthcare Life Sciences Discovery Systems. Mr. Heath was most recently senior vice president of Global Business at Roche Molecular Systems. Product Introductions Arryx introduced the HOTkit Complete Holo-Tweezers Solution for biomedical imaging. Bio-Rad Laboratories launched the Mini-PROTEAN Tetra system for vertical gel electrophoresis. Febit Biomed Gmbh launched the Geniom RT Analyzer for fully automated processing of microarrays employing a microfluidic biochip. GE Healthcare released Biacore T100 software v2 for calibration-free concentration analysis of proteins. Sales/Orders of Note In March, Helicos BioSciences announced the first shipment of the Helicos Genetic Analysis System. UVP shipped 20 Advanced Imaging Systems to the Chinese Center for Disease Control (CDC). Last year, the company shipped 24 Biospectrum Imaging Systems to the CDC.
