Life Science Software Company Spotfire Acquired

Spotfire CEO and founder Christopher Ahlberg told Business 2.0 magazine last month that the company’s revenues have grown 30% annually since 1996, the year the company was formed. Spotfire’s products serve a variety of industries, however, the first market that the company targeted was life science research.

San Francisco, CA 5/1/07—TIBCO Software, a provider of enterprise software, has agreed to acquire Spotfire for $195 million in cash. Spotfire specializes in data visualization analytics software. Its DecisonSite software, which features specific products for functional genomics, microarray analysis and lead discovery, is widely used by life science researchers. TIBCO will retain the Spotfire name and run the company as a separate business unit. The purchase is expected to close in the third quarter.
