Life Technologies Buys Food Testing Sample Prep Technology
The PATHATRIX utilizes recirculating immuno-magnetic separation technology and requires sample sizes of 10 mL to 60 mL. Detection methods include selective agar plating, PCR, lateral flow immunoassays and ELISA. The company also offers consumables, which include pooled-sample options. Life Technologies currently offers the BeadRetriever for automation of Magnetic Dynabeads processing.
Carlsbad, CA 1/24/12—Life Technologies has acquired Matrix MicroScience, a UK-based manufacturer of large-volume, automated sample preparation systems and consumables for food safety testing. The company’s products include the PATHATRIX AUTO system for isolating and concentrating target bacteria in food samples at high volumes. “This acquisition provides all the benefits we were looking for to address our customers’ needs: a solution that dramatically decreases the wait time for results, lowers their price per sample, and makes the technology even more accessible and easy to use for our growing customer base,” said Nir Nimrodi, vice president and general manager of Food Safety and Animal Health at Life Technologies.
