Luminex Buys Automation Business
Luminex stated at its investors day presentation that BSD has an installed base of approximately 600 systems. Forty percent of BSD’s revenue is from the forensics market, to which Life Technologies distributes the company’s products. BSD products automate the handling and processing of paper-based dry-sample card processing in molecular diagnostic labs.
Austin, TX 3/25/10; New York, NY 3/25/10—Luminex has acquired BSD Robotics, an Australian company that specializes in the automation and robotics of dry-sample handling, for $5 million and future earn-out payments. “There is great potential to combine our technologies and expertise to create new products and reach scientists in many industry sectors, from genetic testing to animal health,” said BSD Managing Director Allan Morrison. According to Luminex, BSD has an established position in the newborn screening, forensics, human identification and molecular diagnostic markets. Luminex expects the acquisition to be accretive by early 2011.
