Malvern Adds Product Line

Malvern stated that the Archimedes adds to its products for quantifying aggregation in bioformulations. The Archimedes measures the resonant frequency of individual particles suspended in a liquid flow with a resolution of less than 1 fg. It can measure particles from 50 nm to 5 µm in size.

Malvern, UK 7/25/14—Malvern Instruments has acquired the Archimedes particle-characterization system, including intellectual property and the license to the underlying MIT patent, from Affinity Biosensors for an undisclosed amount. The Archimedes system utilizes Resonant Mass Measurements to detect and count particles. Malvern has exclusively distributed the product outside North America since 2012 (see IBO 11/30/12). “Affinity Biosensors’ Archimedes system has brought the technique of Resonant Mass Measurement into our range, and its close fit within our biopharmaceutical offering has encouraged us to secure its place and future development within Malvern,” stated Malvern’s Managing Director Paul Walker.
