Nova Instruments, which owns Dantec Dynamics A/S, acquired Brookhaven Instruments, a provider of technology for laser light scattering, molecular weight, particle size, zeta potential and chromatography, in July.
Spectris purchased Zhuhai Omec Instruments, a Chinese company that specializes in particle characterization, in July for £7 million ($11 million).
In September, Micromeritics’ new Japanese subsidiary in the Chiba prefecture commenced operations. It provides support for direct sales in Japan and supports Shimadzu, which represents Micromeritics’ porosimetry, physical absorption and density products in Japan.
In August, Zwick Roell acquired a majority share in the testing machine division of Brazilian company Panambra, its former distributor, adding 30 sales and service people. Zwick Roell also acquired a stake in Kutlu, its Turkish distributor. Zwick Roell’s 2009 sales totaled €125 million ($173 million).
Thermo Fisher Scientific announced that it is discontinuing its thermal gravimetric analyzer product lines.

CPS Instruments introduced the new CPS DC24000 UHR Disc Centrifuge for particle size measurements, featuring higher resolution and an improved solvent-resistant disc.
Grabner Instruments, an AMETEK company, released the MINIDIS ADXpert, a portable and fast mini-distillation analyzer.
01dB-Metravib introduced the DMA25 dynamic mechanical analyzer, featuring a force range of +/-25 N.
Mettler-Toledo released the TGA-Sorption System, combining the large furnace TGA/DSC 1 or TGA/SDTA85x with a unique interface for the addition of a humidity generator.
Mettler-Toledo introduced the Flash DSC 1 (differential scanning calorimeter), featuring ultra-high cooling and heating rates.
Zwick launched three models of the ZHVµ micro hardness instrument, featuring a test force range of 10–2,000 gf with the ability to supply four objective lenses and two indenters (Vickers and Knoop).
Beckman Coulter introduced a sample-handling system for the Multisizer 4 Coulter Counter Particle Characterization System, which accommodates Nalgene 5 mL polyethylene vials that enables volumes of 10–4 mL.
Thermo Fisher Scientific launched new temperature control modules for its Thermo Scientific HAAKE RheoStress 6000 rheometer, including the universal Peltier temperature module for plate, cones and cylinders.
Thermo Fisher Scientific introduced the Rheonaut, a compact FT-IR module for its Thermo Scientific HAAKE MARS rheometer platform. The Rheonaut was developed by Resultec for exclusive resale by Thermo.
