Mettler Acquires Microbial Testing Firm

Mettler did not respond to IBO’s request for comment. BioScan offers a portable system, the RMS-UM, for at-line and lab use and an onsite system, the RMS-ON90, for continuous monitoring. The technology uses light scattering to measure particle size and laser spectroscopy to detect NADH and riboflavin in microbial cells.

Tucson, AZ 1/16/16—The Arizona Sun’s tucson.com website has reported that Mettler-Toledo purchased Instant BioScan last year for around $30 million, including future milestones. BioScan joins Mettler’s Thornton division. BioScan develops and sells the Real-Time Microbial Monitoring Systems for detection of microorganisms in water. The company has 15 employees. According to the article, Mettler will initially concentrate on selling the system to the pharmaceutical industry. “We will now have a laser-based technology that can detect bacteria in real time, which makes us the one company to offer all three regulated ultrapure water measurements: conductivity, TOC and bacteria,” stated Mettler CEO Olivier Filliol on Mettler’s third quarter 2015 conference call.
