Mettler Buys Anachem

The Anachem business distributes Mettler’s Rainin products in the UK and Ireland, but no longer distributes pipettes from Gilson, one of Mettler’s major competitors in the market. Gilson’s products are now distributed in the UK by SLS.

London, UK 11/16/09; London, UK 1/13/10; Luton, UK 1/7/10—Mettler-Toledo has purchased Anachem’s Manual Liquid Handling (MLH) business, a UK-based distributor of pipettes, tips and consumables, from Diploma for £7.8 million ($12.7 million = £1.62 = $1) in cash. The MLH business generated £10.7 million ($17.3 million) in revenue for the year ended September 30, 2009, up 1.0 % from the previous year. Diploma announced in November that it planned to transfer the remainder of the Anachem business, which provides lab automation products, to a separate entity “with the intention of realizing further value.” For fiscal 2009, Anachem’s total sales declined 2.3% to £15.7 million ($25.3 million), and operating profit rose 71.4% to £1.2 million ($1.9 million).
