Mettler-Toledo Acquires US Firm for $96 Million

Columbus, OH 7/28/16, Washington, DC 7/29/16—Mettler-Toledo, the largest provider of lab weighing instruments, has agreed to acquire US-based Henry Troemner for $96 million. Henry Troemner supplies lab equipment, weights and weight calibration. The company stated that the purchase would expand its offering of basic lab products distributed under the Ohaus brand, and make it a leader in weights and weight calibration.

According to Mettler-Toledo’s second quarter conference call, the acquisition is expected to add about 1% to 12-month sales growth. The acquisition price was 10x EBITDA. Mettler-Toledo CEO Olivier Filliol stated, “We have 14 calibration labs worldwide, and the acquisition of Troemner firmly positions us as the US market leader. Troemner is a very strong brand in the US based on its world-class metrology competence and solid infrastructure.” Mr. Filliol also commented that Henry Troemner’s lab equipment business will strengthen Ohaus’s life science business. Twenty percent of Henry Troemner’s business is service, primarily weight calibration, and will help Mettler-Toledo expand its contract value-added service business.
