MKS Buys Gas-Analyzer Firm Precisive
Introduced in 2008, Precisive’s TFS systems provide hydrocarbon gas speciation and characterization, as well as detection of trace-level impurities. They are an alternative to GC-based systems. Precisive’s partners include COSA Xentaur (see IBO 10/15/12) and Servomex (see IBO 5/15/13).
Andover, MA 3/18/15—MKS Instruments, a provider of instruments, subsystems and process-control solutions, has acquired Precisive for $13 million in cash. Precisive develops optical analyzers based on Tunable Filter Spectroscopy (TFS) for real-time gas analysis in the natural gas and hydrocarbon-processing industries. Precisive has over 2,500 systems deployed. “We have previously said we are looking for opportunities to invest in growing our business in process and environmental markets and this is the first step in a multiphased approach to execute on that strategy,” stated MKS CEO and President Gerald G. Colella. ”Precisive presented a world-class technology that complements our existing Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR)–based gas-analysis systems and opens up additional opportunities in the energy market for MKS across multiple product lines.”
