Trinean named Chris van Ingen, a director at Bruker, Promega and ProteinSimple, to its Board in May.

Sigma-Aldrich SAFC Commercial’s solid-state R&D business, Pharmorphix, entered into a collaborative technology agreement with BioTools.

Rabo Capital acquired Kipp & Zonen, a provider of instruments for measuring solar radiation and atmospheric properties, in May. CEO Ben Dieterink retired and was succeeded by Dr. Foeke Kuik.

In June, TeraView opened its first office in Asia in Seoul, South Korea.

Datacolor acquired Media Logic, a software provider for the Italian and European retail paint market, in June. The Italian company has seven employees.

Product Introductions

In partnership with Aqsens, Kemira launched in May the KemSens technology for the analysis and measurement of tagged and untagged polymeric scale inhibitors in oilfield-produced waters. The portable test utilizes time-resolved fluorescence in conjunction with chemical modulators.

CRAIC Technologies partnered with Laboratory Imaging to introduce rIQ (refractive index quantification), which combines image-analysis software, optical design and reference materials to enable criminalists to measure the refractive index of multiple glass fragments simultaneously.

StellarNet released the StellarSCOPE System for coupling its spectrometers to a microscope. It comes equipped with an Olympus research microscope.

WITec launched the new WITec Suite software for its imaging systems, featuring the ability to acquire and process large data volumes.

In July, GE Healthcare introduced the SimpliNano microvolume spectrophotometer for concentration and purity measurements of nucleic acids and proteins. It does not require calibration and has no moving parts.

Datacolor launched the 45IR portable spectrophotometer for the security-printing industry.

LI-COR Biosciences introduced the LAI-2200CC Plant Canopy Analyzer for measuring leaf-area index. It features light-scattering correction software.

Ocean Optics released the STS Developers Kit for deploying spectroscopy in new applications.

Sales/Orders of Note

Bruker announced in May that Da Bei Nong Science and Technology, a Chinese feed- and seed-products manufacturer, ordered 25 TANGO FT-NIR spectrometers, and New Hope Liuhe, the largest feed producer in China, ordered 23 MATRIX-I FT-NIR spectrometers, adding to New Hope’s over 60 existing Bruker Optics spectrometers.
