Thermo Fisher Scientific acquired Polychromix, the provider of the PHAZIR handheld NIR instrument, in May. The company had 20 employees.

In June, Ocean Optics acquired Sandhouse Design, a designer and manufacturer of modular mid-IR spectrometers, LEDs, light sources and other photonics products. Ocean Optics stated that with the purchase it now offers close to 1,700 spectrometers, sensors, light sources and accessories and has sold more than 150,000 spectrometers.

T-Ray Science granted TeraView a sublicense in July to use certain continuous-wave terahertz technology.

Edinburgh Instruments appointed Alan Faichney CEO in June. He was previously COO for software company DEM Solutions. Former CEO and founder Professor S. D. Smith remains as CSO and chairman.

Biochrom, the UK-based subsidiary of Harvard Bioscience, named Sam Luke as group managing director in July. He was previously European general manager for the customer services division of Agilent.

In August, FOSS NIRSystems named Instrumentación y Servicio en Analítica as a new distributor for Mexico.

SpectraFluidics announced in August a strategic investment and development agreement with In-Q-Tel, the independent strategic investment firm for the US intelligence community.

ChemImage announced in August a distribution agreement with Light Ace HK for China.

Product Introductions

Biochrom launched four new Libra UV-Vis spectrophotometers in stand-alone and PC-controlled models.

Thermo Fisher Scientific introduced two DXR Nanocarbon Analysis Packages, which incorporate the Thermo Scientific DXR Raman platform, for the characterization and microcharacterization of carbon nanomaterials.

Thermo Fisher Scientific released in August the SPECTRONIC 200 Visible spectrophotometer with full scanning capabilities for education and routine applications.

Thermo Fisher Scientific introduced the Evolution 200 series of UV-Visible spectrophotometers, including three instruments that satisfy specific applications from standard quantitative analysis to research life science assays.

Picarro introduced the 2000 series gas analyzers, which are 30% smaller and consume 30% less power than previous generations of Picarro analyzer products.

CRIAC Technologies released the 308 PV UV-Visible-NIR spectrophotometer for microscopes.

Thermo Fisher Scientific shipped 135 Thermo Scientific handheld chemical identification instruments, formerly sold under the Ahura Scientific brand, to the US Transportation Security Administration in May.
