MS Coming Attractions
At ASMS 2011, several companies discussed future product introductions. AB SCIEX announced at its press conference that it expects to obtain IVD-CE marking for its API 3200 triple quadrupole system and 3200 QTRAP triple quadrupole/linear ion trap LC/MS systems by the end of the year, enabling the use of the systems in Europe for clinical diagnostic applications. AB SCIEX also previewed its SWATH technology, which is the result of a collaboration with the MRMAtlas (see IBO 10/15/10). According to the company, SWATCH Acquisition technology will enable quantitative analysis compatible with LC time frames on every peptide in a single sample using the TripleTOF 5600 System. AB SCIEX plans to launch the software in 2012.
Bruker announced that it plans to release a LC/MS proteomics solution in September based on Michrom’s nanoflow UHPLC technology (see IBO 2/28/11) and CaptiveSpray electrospray ion source (see page 6). Agilent told IBO that it will release a respiratory pathogen kit this July based on its PCR–Mass Code technology (see IBO 11/30/09, 2/15/11) for use on its single quadrupole MS systems. A poster presentation at the conference described the use of a 20-plex panel, resulting in the detection of 36 respiratory pathogens from archived samples.
