The Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences and Waters commenced in June their collaboration to develop assays for the quantification of vitamins in biological fluids.

Bruker announced in June the clearance of its MALDI Biotyper as a medical device by the China Food and Drug Administration for the identification of micro-organisms isolated from human specimens.

Under a strategic alliance, 1st Detect embedded SparkCognition’s Data Science algorithms and advanced neural network–powered analytics into its MMS-1000 MS.

In July, Markes announced the merger of its MS division, ALMSCO, into its core business operation.

Proteo Biosciences and InSphero announced a collaboration to combine and comarket their respective LAESI direct molecular-imaging platform and 3D InSight microtissues for creating 3-D molecular profiles.

Microsaic Systems announced in July that Peter Edwards, technical director, resigned from the Board and will the leave the company in October.

Biognosys named Filgen as a Japanese distributor.

Agilent Technologies extended its comarketing agreement with MRM Proteomics.

In July, MRM Proteomics named Gary Kruppa as president and CEO. He previously served as vice president, Business Development at Bruker Daltonics.

ATCC and bioMérieux announced a collaboration to expand and solidify the bioMérieux VITEK MS microbial-identification database for the industrial market.

Product Introductions

In July, Thermo Fisher Scientific introduced LC/MS-based Class I Medical Devices: the Thermo Scientific Prelude MD HPLC, featuring two parallel channels; the Thermo Scientific Endura MD MS for accurate, reliable quantitation over a wide range of sample sizes and concentrations; and the Thermo Scientific ClinQuan MD software for streamlining LC/MS workflows.

AB SCIEX launched under its SCIEX Diagnostics brand the Triple QuadT 4500MD and QTRAP 4500MD LC/MS/MS systems, available in the US and select EU countries. The 4500MD Series offers flexibility, enhanced performance, improved sensitivity and faster data acquisition.

In August, Advion released a Direct Analysis Probe sample-introduction system for its line of expression compact MS systems.

Waters introduced Progenesis QI Version 2.0 for small molecule ‘omics data analysis. New features include Pathway Mapping and Workflow Automation.

Shimadzu introduced the ASAPrep automated scale-up system for reversed-phase purification, codeveloped with Takeda Pharmaceutical. ASAPrep is an algorithm used to calculate an optimal initial organic mobile-phase concentration in preparative scale.
