Nabsys Shuts Down

The nanopore sequencing company had between 40 and 50 employees in March 2014, according to Dr. Thompson. The Providence Journal reported that Nabsys raised more than $50 million since it was founded in 2004. Former Affymetrix executive Steve Lombardi was named president and CEO last year (see IBO 11/30/14).

Providence, RI 9/13/15; Providence, RI 9/15/15—Golocalprov.com reported on September 13 that Nabsys, a developer of DNA sequencing technology based on semiconductor technology, had closed. The website reported that, according to witnesses, the firm’s offices had been closed for over a week. The Providence Journal reported on September 15 that stockholder and former employee John Thompson, PhD, was notified that the company would be liquidated and dissolved. When contacted by the newspaper, founder and former CEO Barrett W. Bready, PhD, did not confirm nor deny the reports.
