There are 267 bioscience organizations in New Zealand, 117 of which work in the area of innovative foods and human nutrition, and 114 of which work in the area of human biomedical science and drug discovery. Of the 267 bioscience organizations, 46% are “active” organizations, meaning that they operate in other fields, but use bioscience processes to manufacture products; 40% are “core” organizations, which are focused on producing bioscience products; and 13% are “research” organizations, which research bioscience processes. Among all bioscience organizations, 47% had fewer than 10 employees. New or significantly improved bioscience products and services were introduced by 126 bioscience organizations within the past two years. Within the next two years, 159 bioscience organizations are likely to introduce improved bioscience products and services.
