Pall Expands Chromatography Offerings
As Mr. Frank told IBO, “BioSMB addresses key drivers in bioprocessing, including adoption of single-use technologies and flexible multiple-product facilities.” He said that the technology reduces waste and facilitates the use of single-use chromatography. BioSMB utilizes a series of columns for continuous processing and typically can be used with chromatography columns up to 45 cm in diameter. The valves and columns are disposable.
Port Washington, NY 3/31/15—Pall, a provider of filtration, separation and purification products for industrial and life science markets, has announced the acquisition of Tarpon Biosystems’ BioSMB (simulated moving bed) technology for an undisclosed amount. BioSMB technology is designed for single-use, multicolumn chromatography from process development through large-scale production. “It extends our process intensification and continuous processing capabilities to support customers as they adopt continuous downstream processing,” stated Ken Frank, senior vice president at Pall Life Sciences. “The BioSMB technology incorporates disposable components to enable flexible, multiproduct biomanufacturing while reducing costs.” The product line includes single-use multiport, multifunction value blocks.
