PerkinElmer Invests in Nucleic Acid Sample Prep

Chemagen’s technologies include M-PVA Magnetic Beads and the chemagic automated systems for DNA and RNA isolation. The acquisition targets the fast-growing markets for genomic sample preparation instruments and consumables.

Waltham, MA 2/14/11—PerkinElmer has acquired chemagen Biopolymer-Technologie AG, a provider of automated nucleic acid isolation technologies. “The addition of chemagen’s complementary products to PerkinElmer’s portfolio will provide the company with robust platforms and solutions to meet the needs of the rapidly evolving molecular diagnostics market,” stated Daniel R. Marshak, PhD, chief scientific officer and president of Emerging Diagnostics at PerkinElmer. “The hardware and reagent capabilities brought by chemagen include a total solution in nucleic acid sample preparation, with automation-enabling features that can power high-throughput applications in research, screening and diagnostics.” Based in Baesweiler, Germany, chemagen was founded in 1997.
