Pfeiffer Vacuum to Acquire Pump Company
Adixen vacuum pumps are used in numerous analytical instruments, including MS systems, electron microscopes, and optical spectrometers. With Agilent’s purchase of Varian’s Vacuum Technology business and ILMVAC’s purchase of Gardner Denver (see IBO 7/31/10), Pfeiffer may also be seeking a larger portfolio.
Asslar, Germany 11/3/10—Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology AG has announced that it plans to acquires Alcatel-Lucent’s Vacuum Technology Unit, which does business under the Adixen brand name, for approximately €200 million ($279 million = €0.72 = $1). The Unit supplies vacuum pumps and leak detectors, and has a leading market position in backing pumps, according to Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology. In fiscal 2009, the Unit had revenues of €134 million ($187 million) and a negative EBITDA of €3 million ($4 million). Revenues for this fiscal year are estimated to be €270 million ($377 million) and EBITDA are expected to be €40 million ($56 million). “We will not only double our sales revenues, but also significantly increase our market presence,” said Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology CEO Manfred Bender. “We have always said we want to enhance our position in backing pumps, and we believe that the Adixen product portfolio is the perfect fit for us. In addition, we will expand our international sales and service network and, in particular, gain better overall access to the high-growth Asian markets.” The acquisition is expected to take effect on December 31.
