Photon Machines Sells LIBS Business

As IBO reported last year (see IBO 3/15/11), Photon Machines has 15 employees, but LIBS systems is only one of its product lines. TSI stated that TSI’s products include instruments for air quality monitoring, aerosol science and particle measurement

Shoreview, MN 5/16/12—TSI has acquired Photon Machines’ laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) technology and product line. LIBS performs elemental analysis of materials without sample preparation. “This acquisition yields a powerful optical spectroscopy method that greatly enhances TSI’s market-leading aerosol-measurement product portfolio,“ said TSI President Tom Kennedy. “The addition of LIBS technology now expands our customer’s ability to fully characterize aerosols by elemental composition and size distribution.” TSI stated that the technology’s capabilities will serve as a foundation for chemical characterization measurement solutions. Steve Buckley, former president of Photon Machines, and Photon Machines’ employees in Redmond, Washington, will join TSI.
