Research funding in Poland grew 66.7% to more than PLN 4 billion ($1.3 billion) from 2010 to 2012. The number of approved projects fell from 33% to 20% over the same time period. In 2012, 3,200 research grants were awarded, which was a 33.3% decrease from 2010 levels and a 40.7% decrease from 2011 levels. The three regions that received the most research funding in 2012 were the Mazowieckie voivodeship, Silesia and Malopolska, which were awarded PLN 1.9 billion, PLN 460 million and PLN 430 million, respectively. The average number of researchers working on an approved project grew from four to six between 2010 and 2012. In 2012, 62% of research funds went to engineering researchers.
