Company Announcements ABB Switzerland merged its analyzer and software businesses for the cement and minerals industries in March, forming the Collaborative Production Management unit, which encompasses Expert Optimizer, Knowledge Manager and SpectraFlow solutions. Analytical NanoTechnologies acquired the Newton Galley Sampler manufacturing division of the Newton Industrial Group for £247,000 ($480,000). The Galley Sampler is a high-volume air-sampling system used by manufacturers of enzymes and detergents. Applikon Biotechnology named IUL Instruments GmbH a distributor for Germany and Austria, replacing its own subsidiaries in the countries. In April, Yokogawa Electric acquired Analytical Specialties, adding TruePeak Tunable Diode Laser Gas Analyzers, based on tunable diode laser spectroscopy (TDLS), to its VigilantPlant solutions portfolio. The company plans to have $30 million in sales in the TDLS market by 2013. Galvanic Applied Sciences Chairman and CEO Gerry Hipple stepped down in April as part of a company reorganization. Independent director Grant Reeves was named interim CEO. Environnement SA opened an Indian subsidiary in Bombay with a staff of 15–20 people and will open a Chinese subsidiary in Beijing in September. Product Introductions Aspectrics launched the at-line Biodiesel Quality Analyzer 1000. AMETEK Process Instruments introduced the Model 9000 Gas Analyzer, which can be used alone or integrated into continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMs). Emerson Process Management will provide integration and process automation services for its DeltaV digital automation system and Finesse Solutions’ TruBio Bioreactor Control System on projects developed by Finesse’s direct sales force for bioprocess drug development and production. Galvanic Applied Sciences launched the Model 903 H(2)S Tape analyzers for measuring up to four streams of hydrogen sulfide and total sulfur in gaseous streams. GOW-MAC introduced the Series 200DID (discharge ionization detector) GC for parts per billion analysis of noncorrosive and corrosive gases. Thermo Fisher Scientific launched the Thermo Scientific SOLA Flare sulfur analyzer for online measurement and monitoring of flare feed gas. Thermo Fisher Scientific introduced the Thermo Scientific Model 70 FTIR Multi-Gas CEM for measuring up to 10 or more gases in nearly any incineration or co-incineration application. ASD introduced the QualitySpec K-B NIR Analyzer for simultaneous at-line measurement of Kappa number and brightness on wet pulp at multiple process locations. Finesse Solutions introduced the TruViu PLSS, a vessel utility tower system for pilot and small-scale production applications.
