Several companies revealed additional details of their acquisitions in their quarterly SEC filings, including purchase price. PerkinElmer paid a total of $64.6 million for its four instrument and lab product–related acquisitions over the last year. The company purchased Analytica of Branford and its MS technology in May for $24 million in cash (see IBO 5/15/09). The company spent $20.6 million to acquire component company Opto Technology (see IBO 2/15/09). Contingent considerations include an additional $8.0 million. PerkinElmer purchased GE Healthcare’s 3H and 14C Catalog Radiochemicals, reagents for scintillation proximity assays, and Cytostar-T plate portfolio for a total of $12.0 million in cash (see IBO 9/15/09). Finally, the company acquired GC maker Arnel last year for $2.0 million (see IBO 12/15/09).

Waters’s two acquisitions in the past year cost the company $41 million. Waters paid $36 million in cash (and assumed $4 million in debt) for Thar Technologies (see IBO 2/15/09), in which it had already made a $4 million investment (see IBO 10/15/07). Late last year, the company paid $5 million in cash for environmental proficiency testing company Analytical Products Group (see IBO 12/15/09). In September, Dionex purchased ESA Bioscience’s Life Sciences Tools business for $21.6 million (see IBO 9/30/09).
