Rigaku Acquires Handheld Raman Products

Heading Rigaku Raman Technologies will be Hal Grodzins, former president of handheld X-ray florescence spectrometer company Niton. Rigaku’s end-markets include the pharmaceutical industry, for which handheld Raman is used for quality control.

The Woodlands, TX 10/13/11; San Jose, CA 10/13/11—Rigaku Americas has acquired BaySpec’s handheld Raman technology and products lines for an undisclosed amount. Rigaku will form a new division, Rigaku Raman Technologies, for R&D, engineering, production, marketing and distribution of the products. The first products will be the FirstGuard and Xantus series, which cover the sample excitation wavelengths of 532 nm, 785 nm and 1064 nm. Rigaku is a provider of a wide range of analytical instruments and components, including X-ray diffractometers and crystallography instrumentation. BaySpec is a vertically integrated spectral sensing company that supplies molecular spectrometers and components.
