Company Announcements

In June, NuGEN Technologies appointed Nitin Sood as CEO. He formerly served as vice president and general manager of PerkinElmer’s life sciences instruments business.

Product Introductions

Anton Paar introduced in May the Monowave 50 Reactor for microwave synthesis, priced at less than $8,000.

Chromatrap released a 96-well high-throughput purification plate for production of ultra-pure DNA, designed for the purification and concentration of samples from PCR mixtures, ChIP and restriction enzyme digestions.

MO BIO Laboratories launched the NoviPure Microbial Protein Kit for isolation of total cellular proteins from microbial cultures in a spin-filter format.

In June, Biotage introduced a new range of On-line SPE Cartridges designed for use primarily in integrated SPE-HPLC-(MS/MS) systems. They consist of a stainless steel cartridge with standard HPLC-compatible end fittings, and are primarily aimed at the environmental market for extraction of trace organic analytes from water samples.

In July, Prozyme launched its new Gly-X with InstantPC kits, which combine a five minute in-solution enzymatic protein deglycosylation step followed by a one minute labeling of released N-glycans with InstantPC dye.

Sartorius launched the easy-to-use, manually operated Claristep Filtration System, consisting of a station and filter units. Up to eight samples can be simultaneously filtered, and the system is designed for sample volumes of 60–600 µL.

In July, Pressure BioSciences introduced the Barocycler 2320EXTREME pressure cycling technology platform.

Phenomenex launched the Presston 100 Positive Pressure Manifold as an alternative to vacuum manifolds. It applies pressure from above to pass liquids through the sample preparation products, reducing inconsistent pressures and enabling the separation of viscous samples. It can prepare samples in tubes or 96-well plates.

Gilson released the EXTRACTMAN magnetic bead extraction platform based on Salus Technologies’ Exclusion-based Sample Preparation technology. It is designed to isolate proteins, especially weak protein interactions and protein interactions with short half lives, with affinity methods using paramagnetic beads. Up to four samples can be isolated in parallel in as little as 30 sec.

Hamilton Robotics and DPX Technologies jointly developed INTip Chemistry for SPE. INTip Chemistry merges the companies’ respective CO-RE tip technology and dispersive pipette extraction technology. It is compatible with all Hamilton liquid handling workstations. Tip sizes range from 300 µL to 5 mL.

In August, CEM introduced the entry-level Liberty Lite Microwave Peptide Synthesizer. The system can be upgraded to the Liberty Blue.
