According to the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials Institute’s (SEMI) latest forecast, sales of capital equipment will fall 1.7% this year to $36.29 billion before climbing 21.2% in 2014, led by spending on NAND Flash fabs and investments by Intel. Spending on Test, Assembly & Packaging, and Other equipment is expected to decline 15.5%, 17.2% and 5.1% this year to $3.00 billion, $2.55 billion and $2.04 billion but increase 6.0%, 13.7% and 13.7% in 2014, respectively. Spending on Wafer Processing equipment is estimated to grow 1.9% this year to $28.70 billion and rise 24.0% in 2014. Although spending in Taiwan, the largest market, is estimated to grow 9.4% this year to $10.43 billion, it is expected to rise just 1.8% next year.
