Sigma-Aldrich Buys ChemNavigator

The acquisition increases Sigma-Aldrich’s chemical offerings and informatics expertise. ChemiNavigator was founded in 1999 and is based in San Diego, California. The company’s products include iResearch Library, a searchable database of more than 60 million screening compounds from over 280 Supplier Partners; its Chemistry Procurement Service; and ChemNavTools software applications for virtual screening, chemical data management and compound acquisition.

St. Louis, MO 8/6/09—Sigma-Aldrich has acquired cheminformatics firm ChemiNavigator, a provider of discovery research informatics software tools used for the design, selection and procurement of chemical compound libraries. The purchase price was not disclosed. “ChemNavigator is well-recognized for its fast and efficient virtual discovery tools and for its extensive database of chemical compounds,” stated Dr. Ilya Koltover, manager of Business Development for Sigma-Aldrich. “This acquisition enables Sigma-Aldrich to provide the research community with an efficient, seamless discovery offer that extends from virtual selection to compound delivery.” ChemNavigator in combination with Sigma-Aldrich Discovery service’s procurement and distribution capabilities allows Sigma-Aldrich to provide a complete chemical discovery offer, from compound selection to delivery of custom packaged chemical building blocks and screening libraries ready for testing, according to the company.
