Sigma-Aldrich Expands in Latin America
The acquisition furthers Sigma-Aldrich’s plan to make Canada, Asia Pacific and Latin America 25% of sales by 2010. In 2008, the regions accounted for 22% of revenues. In line with this goal, the company opened an office in Vietnam in October 2008.
St. Louis, MO 3/13/09—Sigma-Aldrich has acquired Sigal, its primary distributor in Chile, and formed Sigma-Aldrich Quimica. Terms were not disclosed. “We experienced 20% sales growth in Latin America in 2008 alone, and we believe our expanded presence in Chile, which will integrate sales, marketing and distribution, provides a solid base for consistent growth in the years to come,” stated Eric Green, vice president of International Sales and Operations for Sigma-Aldrich. Sigal’s general manager, Patricia Bravo, will become Sigma-Aldrich’s sales and marketing manager for Chile. Based in Santiago, Chile, Sigal was established in 1997.
