Sony Enters Life Science Instrument Market

Details of iCyt’s new products will be announced in May at the Congress of the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry. Founded in 1995 and based in Champaign, Illinois, iCyt has 44 full-time employees.

New York, NY and Tokyo, Japan 2/9/10—Sony Corporation of America has acquired iCyt Mission Technology, a provider of cell sorters, for an undisclosed amount. “We are confident that this acquisition will accelerate the development of Sony’s flow cytometry business by combining Sony’s expertise in the manufacturing of electronics products for consumers and professionals with the technological assets of iCyt,” stated Sony Executive Vice President Keiji Kimura. Sony stated that it has been jointly developing flow cytometer devices with iCyt since April 2009. Gary Durack, president and CEO of iCyt, will remain with the company.
