South Korea’s Ministry of Knowledge Economy has announced that the country plans to spend $866 million by 2018 on 10 “premier materials.” The 10 materials will be selected in January 2010, but are likely to include titanium alloys, nano-glass and polyelectrolytes. The plan is part of the country’s overall effort to increase R&D spending, which was 3.37% of GDP last year.
