SPECS Surface Nano Analysis transferred its Joule Thompson SPM product line to Unisoku in November 2015. Unisoku now manufactures and sells the systems.
In December 2015, electron microscopy firm Vironova acquired NOW, a provider of consulting services for product development. Vironova has 35 employees, and NOW has 18 employees.
In March, the Swiss Integrative Center for Human Health named ZEISS as an official industrial partner.
In April, Carl Zeiss Microscopy appointed Vashaw Scientific as a distributor for the Southeast and South Central US.
FEI announced in March a strategic partnership with NovAliX to provide TEM cryo-electron microscopy–based structural analysis services. The collaboration includes on-site personnel from FEI.
In April, FEI partnered with five pharmaceutical companies, the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology and the University of Cambridge’s Nanoscience Centre to form the Cambridge Pharmaceutical Cryo-EM Consortium for drug discovery research.
In April, TESCAN USA named Soquelec as its exclusive distributor for Canada.
Glencoe Software announced a partnership with FEI. Glencoe’s commercial license of Bio-Formats, an image file format translation library, will be incorporated into FEI’s Amira 3-D image analysis software application.
Product Introductions
ZEISS introduced in January the Smartproof 5 widefield confocal microscopy for a range of industrial applications.
NT-MDT released in February the polysilicon ETALON AFM probes with cobalt ferrite coating.
PicoQuant announced that its MicroTime 200 TRF microscope can now be integrated with Bruker’s BioScope Resolve BioAFM.
In March, SIGMA Surface Science released the STREAM SPM, a flow cryostat–based UHV-SPM, featuring the TRIBUS SPM head, designed for STM, qPlus AFM and spectroscopy applications.
JEOL launched the JEM-F200 TEM, featuring a cold FEG and dual SDDs, as well as the SpecPorter automated sample holder transfer system.
In March, Hitachi High-Technologies introduced the AFM5500M SPM, featuring increased measurement accuracy and improved ease of use.
In April, Hitachi High-Technologies launched the compact Model FlexSEM 1000 SEM, which can achieve 4 nm resolution.
Oxford Instruments released in March the AZtecOneXT system for EDS analysis, comprised of new AZtecOne software and an x-act SDD, for increased ease of use.
