Tescan Buys Software Company

A Tescan spokesperson told IBO, “AppFive has extensive knowledge in the field of advanced applications of electron microscopes and development of application software. These capabilities will be used to develop new models of electron microscopes at TOH [Tescan Orsay Holding].” AppFive has eight core employees.

Brno, Czech Republic 8/3/15—SEM provider Tescan Orsay has acquired AppFive, a US-based charged-particle optics application software and technique development company. Financial details were not disclosed. Tescan stated that the acquisition will allow it to develop solutions in collaboration with the semiconductor and research markets. “By extending our R&D capacities in mutual synergy with AppFive, we will be able to better serve constantly growing inquires for highly customized solutions—which is the specialty of our company—expecting that other strategic steps in this direction will follow soon,” commented Tescan CEO Jaroslav Klíma. AppFive will operate as an independent division of Tescan, and will continue to license its products to customers and OEM partners.
