Waltham, MA 5/27/10—Thermo Fisher Scientific has agreed to acquire Fermentas International for $260 million in cash. Fermentas is a manufacturer and distributor of enzymes, reagents and kits for molecular and cellular biology research. The company had 2009 revenues of CAD $57 million ($54 million). “With Fermentas, we are better-positioned to meet the demands of molecular and cell biologists for complete workflows that can accelerate their research and improve results,” stated Marc N. Casper, president and CEO of Thermo Fisher Scientific. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter and to not have any material impact on 2010 financial results.
