Thermo Fisher Scientific Acquires Anatomical Pathology Company

Anatomical pathology has been one of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s faster growing businesses, according to Thermo, making it a logical area for acquisitions. Founded in 1964, Raymond A. Lamb is based in Eastbourne, UK. This is Thermo’s eighth acquisition this year (see page 6).

Waltham, MA 11/11/08—Thermo Fisher Scientific has acquired Raymond A. Lamb, a manufacturer of histology and anatomical pathology products. Raymond A. Lamb’s products include systems that automate the labeling and tracking of slides and cassettes. The company had 2007 revenues of $9 million and is a supplier to Thermo Fisher. “Our anatomical pathology customers—in both clinical and research markets–are demanding better solutions for tracking the increasing number of samples that they need to process and diagnose,” said Thermo Fisher Scientific President and CEO Marijn E. Dekkers. “This acquisition brings new-generation systems that can be integrated with our existing portfolio of anatomical pathology equipment and consumables to create a more efficient, and reliable, workflow.” Raymond A. Lamb will join Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Analytical Technologies Segment.
