Thermo Purchases Pipette Technology Company

Mass High Tech reported that the stock deal was valued at less than $10 million and that only nAscent’s vice president of operations, Douglas Kroncke, would be joining Thermo from the 13-person firm. Thermo has manufactured the PocketTip line for over a year. The PocketTip is capable of transferring 50–500 nL of compound in DMSO.

Palm Springs, CA 1/27/08—Thermo Fisher Scientific has acquired nAscent Biosciences, a supplier of liquid handling consumables for drug discovery screening. NAscent’s PocketTip pipette tip features nanoliter metering and microliter diluting and can be used with a variety of liquid handling systems and handheld pipettors. According to Timo Hilden, vice president and general manager of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s liquid handling consumables business, the acquisition “expands Thermo Fisher Scientific’s capabilities in the increasingly important area of nanoliter liquid handling.” The PocketTip can be used with Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Novus Finnpipette.
