Twist Bioscience Acquires Its First Company
Genome Compiler provides DNA design and visualization capabilities, and tools for collaboration, data management and ordering DNA sequences. Twist Bioscience told IBO that the software will remain free for academic users “for the foreseeable future,” and users can still order DNA sequences from various vendors. Twist Bioscience’s eCommerce solution, which will feature gene design capabilities, is expected to be introduced in the second half of this year.
San Francisco, CA and Tel Aviv, Israel 4/6/16—DNA synthesis firm Twist Bioscience has acquired Genome Compiler, a provider of software for genetic engineers, and molecular and synthetic biologists. Financial details were not provided. “They are the leader in developing software that allows design of gene sequences for synthetic and molecular biology experiments,” stated Twist Bioscience CEO Emily Leproust, PhD. “We intend to build an elegant, intuitive eCommerce solution with a deep pipeline of digital products to follow that will enable our customers to reimagine their research by providing seamless integration of the design and build of their synthetic DNA.” Twist Bioscience has designated Genome Compiler’s Israeli R&D facility as its first international site.
