UK Health Secretary Andrew Lansley recently announced the largest amount of funding to date for translational research. The £775 million ($1.3 billion) will be available over five years to NHS/university partnerships through the National Institute for Health Research as part of £4 billion ($6.5 billion) in total R&D funding through March 2015. The priority will be applications for projects that further the development of treatments for high-priority diseases like dementia, cancer and heart disease.
