VWR Acquires Danish Distributor
VWR continues to grow its business in Europe through the acquisition of local distributors, which have traditionally had a strong presence in such a diverse market. Madison Dearborn Partners completed its acquisition of VWR on June 29 (see IBO 5/15/07).
West Chester, PA 6/20/07—VWR International has agreed to acquire Bie & Berntsen A-S, a Denmark-based distributor of laboratory supplies. Financial details were unavailable. Founded in 1992, the family-owned Bie & Berntsen A-S has annual revenues of around $27 million and employs 90 people. Managing Director Søren Kirkegaard will join VWR. “VWR’s expertise in chemicals, consumables and life science products, combined with Bie & Berntsen’s emphasis on instruments, equipment and technical service, will enhance our product and service offerings to our customers and provide an even more attractive platform for our suppliers,” commented Manuel Brocke-Benz, senior vice president and managing director of European operations for VWR. The transaction is expected to close by July 2.
