Waters’s NuGenesis System
In April, Waters announced the NuGenesis Lab Management System, an update to NuGenesis 8, released in 2012. Like the previous version, the product features a Scientific Data Management System (SDMS), ELN and laboratory execution system. The system bypasses elements of LIMS, such as invoicing and trend analysis, that many labs do not require. Waters Senior Product Marketing Manager of Laboratory Management Informatics Garrett Mullen told IBO, “The platform really isn’t focused on those things, but more of the laboratory execution piece—inventory management, controlling the places where the calculations and things are done, metrology types of information, integration with systems like SAP.” The software offers several preconfigurations.
One new feature is SampleShare, a web client allowing sample registration from anywhere with internet access. Stability, an optional module to manage the workflow of stability studies is another addition. Newly integrated into the SDMS is Paradigm, a tool that indexes unstructured data to search though databases and data from Waters products. Also optional is Dashboard, which monitors data-management systems, such as servers in different locations.
NuGenesis can interface with LIMS, such as when, in smaller labs, it needs to integrate with the LIMS of the overarching network of labs. Also, in the new version of the platform, the new Connectors feature allows integration of instrument data into a connected LIMS system.
The NuGenesis Lab Management System’s target release date is October 31. Depending on functionality and module options, the software will cost $2,000–$85,000.
