X-Rite Sells Labsphere to Halma

Halma continues to add to its photonics business, which also includes Ocean Optics (see IBO 5/31/04) and Mikropak (see IBO 5/13/06). Based in New Hampshire, Labsphere has 65 employees.

Grand Rapids, MI 2/8/07; Amersham, UK 2/8/07—Halma has acquired X-Rite’s Labsphere business for $13.9 million in cash and a deferred cash consideration of $1.5 million. Labsphere is a designer and manufacturer of light testing and measurement products, as well as specialized optical coatings. The company posted 2006 revenues of $12.5 million and an operating profit of $2.4 million. “Together with Ocean Optics, Halma now has two leading companies in this existing market where we are well placed to grow organically and through future acquisitions,” said Halma Chief Executive Andrew Williams. “The divestiture of Labsphere is part of the ongoing X-Rite strategy to focus resources on its core color-related business,” said X-Rite CEO Thomas J. Vacchiano.
