Zeiss to Acquire Xradia

A Zeiss spokesperson told IBO that the acquisition is expected to close in July and that Xradia has just over one hundred employees. Asked about Zeiss’s plans to grow the industrial and academic segments of the business, he said, “Since Zeiss is widely represented in the research area, most of the early synergies are expected in that segment. Later on, additional potential is seen in the routine quality inspection and the established position of Zeiss in bioresearch.”

Oberkochen, Germany and Pleasanton, CA 6/13/13—Zeiss has announced plans to acquire Xradia, a provider of 3D X-ray microscopes for industrial and academic research applications, for an undisclosed amount. “Based on our unique portfolio of light, electron and ion microscopes, we are now adding the capability of 3-D imaging within objects at unprecedented resolution using X-ray microscopy,” stated Dr. Ulrich Simon, head of the Zeiss Microscopy business group. “This will enable new applications and make the workflows in multimodal imaging easier and more efficient to use for our customers worldwide.” Following the completion of the purchase, Xradia will operate under the name Carl Zeiss X-ray Microscopy.
