A NEW STANDARD FOR ANALYTICAL TESTING IN THE CANNABIS INDUSTRY:

JEOL Introduces Triple Quadrupole GC-MS/MS for Pesticide Residue Analysis and Terpene Profiling at MJBizCON

Peabody, MA – JEOL USA, Inc, a leader in the mass spectrometry space for over 60 years, will introduce their JMS-TQ4000GC triple quadrupole GC-MS/MS to the cannabis scientific community at MJBizCon, the preeminent Marijuana Business Conference for cannabis professionals, which takes place in Las Vegas from October 19th 2021 – October 22nd 2021.

The JMS-TQ4000GC Triple-Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer offers high speed and high sensitivity for the analysis of trace-level residual pesticides in agricultural materials like cannabis.  JEOL’s triple quad mass spectrometer offers the fastest Selected Reaction Monitoring (SRM) switching speed in the industry at 1,000 channels/sec, allowing analysts to look for hundreds of pesticides within a given sample with both high quantitative precision and high quantitative accuracy.

“Just as pesticides are harmful to unwanted pests, they can also be harmful to pollinators, such as honeybees, and even humans in large enough doses,” shares Kirk Jensen, an applications chemist at JEOL. “While not an exhaustive list, possible side effects can include nervous system damage, hormone imbalances, and skin irritation, depending on the pesticide. As such, it is important to know which pesticide residues are on the crop, how much is present, and if that amount poses a substantial risk to human and environmental health.”

Inconsistencies in the current state of cannabis analytical testing have created regulatory challenges for industry leaders and consumers. JEOL is collaborating with Think20 Labs with a shared goal to provide improved and more precise analytical techniques to the cannabis testing market. Think20 Labs, based in Irvine, California, is licensed by the California Bureau of Cannabis Control to test cannabis, hemp, and cannabis-related consumer products for regulatory requirements.

JEOL is a world leader in manufacturing equipment and instrumentation for demanding scientific and industrial research and development. Core product groups include electron microscopes (SEMs and TEMs), instruments for the semiconductor industry (electron beam lithography and a series of defect review and inspection tools), and analytical instruments including mass spectrometers, NMRs, and ESRs.

JEOL USA, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of JEOL, Ltd., Japan, was incorporated in the United States in 1962.  The company has 13 regional service centers that offer unlimited emergency service and support in the U.S.
