ALERT B&C Corporation announces the addition of a seasoned Chief Operating Officer to its management team

LAVAL, QC, Sept. 16 /CNW Telbec/ – ALERT B&C Corporation (“ALERT B&C” or the “Corporation”) (TSX Venture Exchange: ACB) announces today the appointment of proven Senior Executive, Mr. Stefan Krolik as its Chief Operating Officer.

“ALERT B&C is thrilled that we have been able to attract an individual with Mr. Krolik’s experience, vision, and passion for the applications of Mass Spectrometry. He has developed worldwide resources and relationships over the last 25 years that will be crucial to opening the right doors for our company,” said Kurt Soost, President and CEO.

Mr. Krolik brings demonstrated leadership skills along with extensive experience and business relationships in the field of Mass Spectrometry as well as an abundance of knowledge around product and application development. Mr. Krolik’s contributions will be instrumental in bringing the executive and scientific teams together to address immediate public safety needs, guiding the Corporation in its breakthrough into the global BioDefence market.

A respected member of the scientific and business communities, Mr. Krolik comes highly recommended by ALERT B&C’s MAB inventor and accomplished Mass Spectrometry scientist, Dr. Michel Bertrand. “Stefan knows the world of Mass Spectrometry and is familiar with the most recent instruments and techniques. He has vast experience with the application of the technique in several fields,” commented Dr. Bertrand. “In the last 25 years he has made contacts not only in Canada, where he knows most laboratories and scientists, but also in the United States and Europe. Stefan has shown himself to be an excellent sales and marketing person as well as a great executive asset. He is the type of person that can adequately fill the void in the area of sales and marketing that presently exists at ALERT B&C by working in collaboration with the scientists employed by the Corporation.”

Another recommendation came from industry expert Mr. Reza Javahery, President of IONICS Mass Spectrometry Group Inc. who said to Mr. Soost in recent discussions, “Mr. Krolik knows the Mass Spectrometry business from front to back and would be an incredible addition to your team. He is extremely astute when it comes to business, applications, and where the market is going in terms of Mass Spectrometry. It would be a great strategic decision to bring him into your organization.”

Mr. Krolik obtained a Masters in Chemistry from Magdalen College, Oxford University in 1980. His first professional experience was with a major pharmaceutical company where he headed a Mass Spectrometry Group and was involved in the development of analytical methods for analysis of new pharmaceuticals.

In 1983, Mr. Krolik joined VG Analytical in Manchester, UK, where he was responsible for the applications laboratory. VG Analytical was one of the world leaders in Mass Spectrometry. During this period he became acquainted with state-of-the-art Mass Spectrometry equipment in addition to being directly involved with customers as a result of his role in providing technical applications support.

In 1989, Mr. Krolik came to Canada where he held the position of Product Manager for Mass Spectrometry within VG Instruments Canada. Here he became more involved in direct sales and was responsible for the Organic Instruments division.

In 1996, Fisons Instruments Canada (formerly VG Instruments) became Micromass Canada Inc. following a management buy-out. As part of the management buy-out team, Mr. Krolik was appointed as President of the Canadian company with full fiscal, executive and managerial responsibilities for business in Canada. During that time, Micromass Canada increased its sales significantly and became the number one Mass Spectrometry supplier in Canada. Micromass Canada was awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the category of International Trade, the UK’s most prestigious award for business performance.

In 2003 Mr. Krolik was awarded the Canadian Society for Mass Spectrometry Informal Award for Contributions to Canadian Mass Spectrometry. Recently Mr. Krolik has been offering his expertise as a private consultant to scientific instrument and technology companies, assisting in product development, market analysis, and development and implementation of sales and marketing strategies.

“I have been looking for the opportunity to be part of building a significant, ground-breaking company in the detection/Mass Spectrometry field.” said Mr. Krolik. “After thorough due diligence I have concluded that ALERT B&C’s MAB Source platform has significant potential in a number of major areas and I believe this is just such an opportunity.”
