Alpha M.O.S. Sales for 1st Half Year 2008-2009
SALES FOR 1st HALF YEAR 2008-2009 : GOOD SECOND QUARTER: + 39 % BUT GROWTH FOR FIRST HALF LOWER THAN FORECAST
Toulouse, April 30, 2009 – Alpha M.O.S., (Euronext Paris, compartment C, ISIN : FR0000062804-ALM)
world leader in the manufacture of electronic noses and tongues for industrial applications, generated sales of € 2,626 million during the first half of 2008-2009 ending March 31, 2009, compared to € 2,305 for the same period in the previous year.
Consolidated sales In millions of Euros
First quarter 2008/2009 1,097
First quarter 2007/2008 1,210
Variation – 9,4 %
Second quarter 2008/2009 1,529
Second quarter 2007/2008 1,095
Variation + 39,6 %
First half year 2008/2009 2,626
First half year 2007/2008 2,305
Variation + 13,9 %
In addition to these sales of instruments and services, the order book at March 31, 2009 amounted to
1,355 M€, compared to 1,310 M€ one year earlier.
After a slow start to the year, sales picked up significantly in line with expectations during the
second quarter. However, for the half year taken as a whole, which historically represents 35-
40% of annual sales, growth was limited to 13,9%, which is below our expectations. It should be
noted that Périchrom was not consolidated for the first half 2007-08.
High added-value service and engineering revenues performed strongly (+ 43.8%) over the
period thanks to the growth of the customer base and the emphasis on long-term development
projects. Geographically, Asia was commercially dynamic whereas the European and US markets
remained morose. The opening of a new subsidiary in Japan in April will allow the group to
capitalize on the enormous potential within this market. The majority of sales by segment
continued to be in the food and environmental sectors, which are at the heart of the Group’s
development and commercial strategy.
According to Jean-Christophe MIFSUD, CEO of Alpha Mos, « We are satisfied with the
reaction observed during the second quarter and the strength of the order book in the face of a
difficult economic climate. However, even if the commercial outlook for the second half-year is
good, the profitability of the Group will be lower than expected, adversely affected by the level
of investment made at the end of last year and the beginning of 2009.
We will continue to promote and sell our technology, looking to exploit those sectors which
appear the most promising in the short term while at the same time bringing into line our
operating structure and level of fixed costs. We will continue to work on the important
opportunities for high volume and value sales already identified but for which the lead-times are
more difficult to ascertain in the current climate of affairs».
Full audited results for the first half year will be published on May 29, 2009.
