American Museum of Natural History Licenses Geneious Sequence Analysis Software From Biomatters, Ltd.

AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND–(April 1, 2009) – Biomatters, Ltd., a global provider of bioinformatics software for the management, visualization and interpretation of sequence data for laboratory scientists, announced today that the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York City has chosen Geneious software to support research at the Sackler Institute for Comparative Genomics (SICG). “The Institute will use Geneious to support ongoing research investigating the tree of life, advancing the use of comparative genomics in biodiversity conservation, and developing innovative approaches to issues in human health and disease,” commented Matthew S. Leslie, manager at SICG. The SICG will employ Geneious to greatly streamline their need to perform sequence visualization, assembly, primer design and BLAST searching.

As part of the agreement with the American Museum of Natural History, Biomatters has also agreed to donate several Geneious software licenses to Diponegoro University in Indonesia and the International Centre of Insect Physiology and the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute.

Biomatters not only licenses Geneious to major research institutes, universities and commercial organizations, but it also provides significant discounts to customers in low GDP countries to help promote bioinformatics around the world. “Geneious has been purchased by over 600 universities and research facilities worldwide since its official launch in August 2006, we are fast becoming the Swiss Army knife of software for molecular biologists worldwide, with capabilities in grid computing, high-end visualization and in-built teaching tools,” says Candace Toner, CEO of Biomatters. “We are very proud to partner with organizations like the AMNH to provide research tools to developing countries through our gifting programs.”
