BioDatomics Introduces the Latest Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Platform

Pittsburgh, PA, BioDatomics releases a new version of their computational biology analysis and visualization platform – a workstation version is now available for free download – BioDatomics.com.

BioDatomics is a sophisticated software and hardware platform supported by cutting edge data storage and delivery technologies built to deliver all the computational power required for today’s high throughput techniques used in genomics and the discovery of disease treatment, origin and prevention.

Genetic research has never been more prolific and the equipment used to produce the research data is in a constant upward spiral of capability, now resulting in almost unimaginable amounts of data being created. The BioDatomics platform is a hardware and software solution that can handle such vast data repositories and allows scientists across the globe to collaborate efficiently and make discoveries that will help prevent disease and increase our understanding of our genetic composition.

BioDatomics has partnered with Valex LLC, developers of advanced storage solutions for genetics and other research. Delivering large volumes of research data over existing networks had been an increasing source of frustration for many researchers; the proprietary compression system developed by Valex allows the fast delivery of the large volumes of data generated from the latest in molecular biological research using regular Internet connections. BioDatomics is the software that can analyze, manipulate, share and enable discovery through the many different visualizations of the data and analysis results. For those with their own servers and storage hardware, BioDatomics can be installed in a software-only configuration and provide full functionality.

Existing systems tend to be non-integrated and offer little in the way of collaboration; many computational biology tools are still using Command Line Interface (CLI) as the means of communicating and producing computational manipulations. BioDatomics is a fully integrated solution with an intuitive interface that allows new workflows and pipelines to be created very quickly. Possibly the most powerful feature of BioDatomics is its modular architecture. This allows new tools to be added very rapidly and also to be able to quickly port existing CLI or other tools seamlessly into BioDatomics. The advantage of being able to add new tools so easily is that existing 3rd party code, such as that created by researchers, can be incorporated into BioDatomics and the data they generate can subsequently be visualized in new ways. The modular architecture means that BioDatomics can be expanded and enhanced with new tools very easily so can therefore be easily adapted to varied research applications.

BioDatomics (biodatomics.com) is based on the open-source BioUML platform and is the culmination of 7 years of development. The commercial release can now fully support the high data volumes that high throughput and NGS methods generate. These volumes are often in the region of hundreds of terabytes in size, with new technologies promising to deliver petabytes (1000 terabytes or 1015 bytes) of information in the coming years. This explosion of data proliferation is leading to new discoveries that can only be made using very advanced techniques and computational functionality such as are provided with BioDatomics.

Deepen Your Discovery the BioDatomics tagline reads; this is a reference to the extra depth to which data can be analyzed in BioDatomics.
