BIOMAX INFORMATICS AG

Releases the New BioXM Version 3.0, A Major Upgrade of Its Flagship Enterprise Platform for Semantic Data Integration and Knowledge Management MARTINSRIED, Germany–Biomax Informatics today announced the new release of a major upgrade of its flagship product BioXM™ Knowledge Management Environment. The BioXM system integrates information from different data sources to dynamically build semantic networks representing up-to-date knowledge, which can then be mined and analyzed. BioXM version 3.0 now introduces an all-new set of tools specifically developed for scientific interpretation of semantic networks such as biological pathways or biomedical relationship graphs. The BioXM system allows complex scientific questions to be answered dynamically and graphically with unprecedented speed and flexibility. Using a unique, easy-to-use approach of query-based “information layers”, different user-configurable scientific scenarios can be explored with a single click. A newly introduced high-performance analysis API seamlessly integrates favorite tools such as often-used R and BioConductor scripts or other third-party applications. Today, the BioXM system is used in diverse areas which are often just emerging, such as systems biology, biomedical and translational sciences or personalized medicine. Customers from pharma, food and nutrition, clinical research or systems biology observe an immediate and significant increase in productivity — even for teams just starting to use the BioXM technology. For example, interaction networks based on the combined information provided by multiple specialized databases — such as KEGG, BIND, DIP, BioGRID, etc. — can be created with a single query. A query builder using a natural-language-like syntax, which is validated on the fly and allows the user to define very specifically what conditions should be met by the result network. BioXM version 3.0 introduces new APIs that simplify full integration with most available infrastructures, including extension of the query language itself. Taking advantage of these APIs to integrate BioXM technology helps close the gap between in-house solution development and the scientific user who is primarily interested in an exhaustive answer to a specific problem. The release of BioXM version 3.0 increases its lead as the premier platform for scientific knowledge management and semantic data integration. Sascha Losko, the Biomax Product Manager for the BioXM platform, outlines: “We have been working on BioXM version 3.0 in close collaboration with our rapidly growing customer base. Compared to the version 2.0 product line of the BioXM system, which we initially released in April 2006, we added extensive requested functionality such as support for high-throughput, high-volume experimental data, significantly enhanced graphical capabilities, even concept extensions — such as ‘virtual relationships’ — and the unique information layers for exploration of configurable scientific scenarios. With all this functionality being added, general ease of use was a major objective, which we constantly validated together with our scientific customers.” BioXM customers are already being upgraded to BioXM version 3.0.
