Cooperation between Carl Zeiss MicroImaging and UC Davis in Laser Capture Microscopy

Davis, CA/Thornwood, NY – August 2008. Carl Zeiss MicroImaging,Inc. and the Lucy Whittier Molecular and Diagnostics Core Facility at UC Davis have started a collaboration in the development and implementation of Laser Capture Microscopy (LCM) methodology. The Core Facility at UC Davis is currently using the patented non-contact LMPC technology for the contamination-free isolation and collection of cells and tissue samples as part of their workflow for further processing with its analytical laboratory equipment such as Real-Time PCR. The Core Facility and the Zeiss LCM Application Labs in Germany will now work even more closely together to develop and validate protocols for the isolation, capture and evaluation of cells and tissue. This will include sample preparation upstream of LCM as well as downstream sample analysis. Most importantly, the Lucy Whittier Molecular and Diagnostic Core Facility will also be a part of the services the Zeiss team currently offers to our users. This will provide a solution to those that are interested in validation studies and proof of concept projects for grant applications, etc. The Interim Director of the Lucy Whittier Molecular and Diagnostics Core Facility, Dr. Emir Hodzic, stated “We are excited about our new endeavor with Carl Zeiss MicroImaging,Inc and the opportunity to offer our various services to potential new internal/ external clients; whom should feel free to contact us for information or an estimate.” Carl Zeiss MicroImaging, Inc., a subsidiary of Carl Zeiss, Inc., offers microscopy solutions and systems for research, laboratories, routine and industrial applications. In addition, Carl Zeiss MicroImaging markets microscopy and digital pathology systems for the clinical market, as well as spectral sensors for industrial and pharmaceutical applications.
