CSC Scientific Announces Involvement in the Biomass Crop Assistance Program (BCAP)

Fairfax, Va. (PRWEB) — CSC Scientific Company, Inc. has found moisture determination challenges in implementing BCAP and has been working on solutions since the program started.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Services Agency has initiated the Biomass Crop Assistance Program (BCAP) to subsidize the developers or collectors of biomass material with the objective of stimulating its use for power production.

The program will pay biomass suppliers a subsidy of up to $40 per ton, which will be based upon the material’s purchase price and dry-weight tonnage.

BCAP Conversion Facilities have been registered to purchase eligible material and are charged with the responsibility of calculating the moisture in each load of biomass purchased.

The range of this material includes shredded and chipped products as well as unprocessed logs, branches and used wooden pallets. This diversity of material creates a significant challenge in determining moisture.

Processed biomass in the form of chips or shredded material is easily measured. Direct instrument results can be used to generate the required dry-weight tonnage documentation for BCAP subsidy payments. However, with unprocessed material, a combination of measurements, judgment estimates and calculations are needed to produce the specified documentation.

CSC Scientific Company, Inc. produces and distributes test equipment that can service most types of biomass material for the measurement of moisture, particle size and surface tension.
