CVC Fund “Shimadzu Future Innovation Fund” invested in SUN METALON Inc. a U.S. company with innovative metal recycling technology.
Shimadzu Corporation has invested in U.S. startup SUN METALON Inc. (Sun Metalon, Illinois) through its corporate venture capital (CVC) fund, “Shimadzu Future Innovation Fund”. Sun Metalon is developing solution to recycle scrap metal generated by the automotive, construction machinery, and steel manufacturing industries at the sites.
Despite its potential value, scrap metal generated at manufacturing sites is traded for nearly nothing and recycled into low-quality products. Many manufacturing sites do not separate metals, and mixed scrap metal can significantly reduce the value of the material. In addition, existing recycling processes emit large amounts of CO2 during the transportation of scrap metal and in recycling furnaces.
Sun Metalon has innovative metal recycling solution with proprietary metal heating technology characterized by low cost and low environmental impact, which is installed near the metal processing lines of client companies to reduce CO2 emissions in metal recycling and achieve sustainable resource recycling.
Metal recycling solution “Venus-L6” developed by Sun Metalon
Shimadzu has analytical and measurement technologies such as component, composition and strength evaluation of metals. With this investment, Sun Metalon and Shimadzu will collaborate to create Circular Economy for metal materials.
